Feeding fruit to chickens

Hi: I'm new to the backyard chicken. At what age do I start feeding them fruit and veggies? Mine are only 5 weeks old still on starter crumble.

You can give them sum shredded carrots,cucumbers, Zukini, pumpkin but you can't give them any of the plants in this list! Reed the link.

Shalom! I was jazzed to see someone here from Arritz Israel! What place or local are you in? The middle could describe a lot of places North to about Haifa, no? In 1985 I lived in Kibbutz Ein Hashofet for six months. I briefly worked in the chicken elul? for a brief stint but wasn't fond of being attacked by the rooster. chaval! Little did I know that 30 years later I'd get chickens finally of my own. I love Israel. I only lived there for a year and a half but have some really nice memories. My Hebrew sucks but I still remember some of it. How big of a flock do you tend to? We only have Seven, one might be a cockerel but they aren't quite there. Some of mine are just now clucking a little bit, but I really enjoy them! Here's a few pics of them and our coop in the forest of the Pacific Northwest ( Washington State). We feed our flock lots of banana, melon rind with some melon still on it, dried fruit cut up into very small pieces and fresh apple cut up into various sizes. They go crazy for the melon and banana. Anyhow, Leheitraot!

As long as the food is small/soft enough for them to eat without choking it is fine.

@wallsden The chicks can start eating small pieces of fruits and vegetables at a pretty young age. They are very curious and may pick at it before they realize it is food. Once they figure it out, they will grab the food, run, and play keep away with each other. If you start feeding them treats now, as they begin to get older, they will come running when they see you. Chickens can be highly entertaining! Enjoy them!

Shalom aleichem! Finely someone that I can chat with in Ivrit! Your Ivrit is metzuienet! I live in Even- Yhuda, its a nice Town 4 miles east to Netanya, on the mediterranean cost between Tel-aviv and Haifa. Ein hashofet is 25 miles from me. I also tend to have some little flock of layers currently I have only 5 but I want some more ( its depend on my wife, actually if I think about it EVERY thing depend on her.......) Leishtamea Shalom! Very pretty and healthy pullets! In the 4th picture, the second BPR is 100% a cockerel.

wallsden Welcome! If you were referring to my flock thank you! They are a riot! This morning I saw my Banty "Bikini" chest butt the top dog or chick. She cracked me up with her I'm not going to take any of your bullying attitude. Red isn't really a bully though but seems so far to be on the top of the pecking order and I think she might just be a cockerel based on behavioral patterns. They are all getting bigger and getting changes in their sounds and combs. I'm hoping for no cockerels, let alone more than one! I hope yours are faring well also!

They need grit too if fed anything other than chick chow.
