New to this chicken thing so just wondering if I should hang feed and water out in the run or in the coop? right now they are getting all the bedding in the water and feed. I elevated it on a small platform and didnt seem to work. Suggestions??

In part it depends on your run. You need to make sure that the food doesn't get wet, or ergot/other mold will develop.

My run is covered, but I can still get rain and snow blowing in there. I keep the food in the coop. It makes a nice bedtime snack on the way back to the roost that way, too.

I also hang both the waterer and feeder. This works really well to keep bedding, etc., out.

thanks for the input. Run is covered but I think i will buy a new water canister so it can be hung. seems like that is what everyone does on here. thanks again:)

My run is not covered, and my chickens tend to free-range a lot anyway. I have water inside and outside the coop, and I keep the food inside the coop. Gives them something to eat before I get up and let them out, and it doesn't get wet or eaten by the geese. Right now I hang my feeder and have black rubber tubs for their water. When I build the coop I am going to make a gravity feeder in it so I can just dump the bag of food in and be good (laziness for DH I guess?)
