I'm a newbie, so please forgive me if someone has already asked/answered this question. My chicks are about 5 weeks old, and we will be putting outside in their new chicken house/run hopefully this weekend, if the temps are warm enough.

My question is: Should i provide feed inside the coop, or outside in the run? I plan on having a 5 gallon bucket with chicken nipples for water, and possibly placing a small waterer inside the coop for access at night, but i'm not sure about the feed. Will they go back inside the coop during the day to eat?

Thanks!!

Everyone has a different opinion on this but yes, the chickens will go in and out of the coop to eat and drink. So it's really prefrence for you. I personally keep all food and water inside the coop and it's available to them 24/7.

It's really up to you.

Some people think that food in the run will attract more pests. Water in the coop will be messy.

If you do not have light in the coop, they will not eat or drink in the dark.

Hmmmmm feeder inside might be nice for my chickens since I'm not as early a riser as they are, lol!

Tons of water outside the coop (they free range and water is a mess inside the coop).

They get food inside the coop, but it's only dimly lit during the day to help encourage them to go go outside and eat the durn bugs!

The messy water problem is easily solved with going to the nipple and bucket method. No mess and clean water for them to drink. Best thing I have done yet in that coop.
