I know you shouldn't feed non laying chickens layer feed as too much calcium isn't good for them.

I'm having a dilemma though. I only have a few days worth of grower feed left. I prefer to feed organic and can't get that locally (I live on a small island in AK). I ordered and had shipped several bags of food during a large group order this summer. I have plenty of layer pellets. My girls are 23 week old EEers. They are not laying yet but I am seeing some signs that they might start soon. I'm really hoping its soon anyway.

So do you think its ok to start them on the layer feed. I can get regular grower feed from the local feed store...just not organic. Would it be better for the girls to just go buy a bag of that until they do start laying?

I would probably go ahead and start the layer as they are well past the 18 week recommendation on layer, especially since you are seeing signs.
