It is not specific nor carefully calculated. The title of the article I wrote about it is 'Wholesome homemade feed *without* sweat, tears, *a calculator* or deep pockets', and I emphasize throughout the importance of variety, seasonality, and locality, and adjusting based on how the flock responds, rather than on any theory or calculus.

This, apparently the polar opposite of carefully calculated and specific, is not the only alternative. Most sensible feeding regimes lay between the extremes, not at them.

It's best to have their primary balanced diet available all the time, and then the other goodies are treats, not more than maybe 10% of their daily diet.
Of course they'd rather have all those goodies!

It sounds like these chickens are getting plenty of forage but mine do as well and still eat their dinner. I don’t leave food out all day—I give a scoop in the morning and a scoop before roost time.
