Feeding My Flock

you feed a very specific homemade feed that you have been careful to calculate nutrients in
It is not specific nor carefully calculated. The title of the article I wrote about it is 'Wholesome homemade feed *without* sweat, tears, *a calculator* or deep pockets', and I emphasize throughout the importance of variety, seasonality, and locality, and adjusting based on how the flock responds, rather than on any theory or calculus.
Which is not the same as throwing them mealworms and vegetables randomly
This, apparently the polar opposite of carefully calculated and specific, is not the only alternative. Most sensible feeding regimes lay between the extremes, not at them.

But you feed a very specific homemade feed that you have been careful to calculate nutrients in. Which is not the same as throwing them mealworms and vegetables randomly. I bet mine would prefer your homemade feed to the store bought stuff!

It sounds like these chickens are getting plenty of forage but mine do as well and still eat their dinner. I don’t leave food out all day—I give a scoop in the morning and a scoop before roost time.
yes they are in a little run an are foraging they ate all the grass in the pen
