Feeding Pumpkin

Me too. They are slower to eat the flesh than the "guts", but it gives them something to do. And it usually gets eaten.

Saladin - cool picture! That's the most beautiful pile of chicken food I have ever seen!

It does look pretty neat don't it? Thanks.

If you want an insanely productive squash try trombone zucchini. I planted 3 vines and bet I got at least 100lbs of squash. And don't let the name throw you off. If you let them mature they store and harvest just like a winter squash. Also, if you harvest them smaller they taste great for people food

I also wanted to do gourds, but we hit a drought and I had to stop watering the garden the cost was just too high for the water..

indeed beautiful! I'm a HUGE pumpkin fan, a couple of years ago when I had garden room, I grew 24 different varieties, including some of the ones Saladin's got. they do taste different, some more pumpkin-y than others. some a bit more like butternut. some almost no taste at all. so far I haven't found a variety with a super strong pumpkin taste, still looking for that. but beautiful and easy to grow. pumpkin pie, pumpkin-mushroom soup, pumpkin-pear soup,, candied pumpkin, pumpkin cranberry ginger bread...
oh, right, we're here about the chickens...
