okay my jumbo brown coturnix quail eggs are due to hatch next week end. I have a ? the only feed we can get here is chick starter medicated, and turkey starter medicated what am I going to feed them? everyone says feed only non medicated game bird starter, I can't buy it here. I don't want them to starve to death and I don't want to kill them on the meds so what else can I do?

Does your feed store sell purina products? Purina mills makes a feed called flock raiser. It is not medicated and 20% protein. I start all my birds on this. If you can't find that, you can feed them the turkey starter, I don't think the medication harms them, it's more of a 'contaminating the meat' thing.

You should ask them if they can order non-medicated, though I think all turkey and game bird starters are medicated. At least the ones I have available here are.

Hi,

My birds are fed a medicated chick crumb from 0-28 days with no effect on them, mortality is very low most of the time I rear all chicks to adulthood.

With medicated foods, there should be a label on the sack that will tell you, if you intend eating the bird or eating eggs from the birds, then you should see a withdrawal period on the lablel.

Organic foods do not contain medication, so you can use this instead.

I live in a very small community in southeast ky back in the mountains. the only feed we have is burkmann and all they will get around here is turkey starter medicated. and it is a miracle that I can get it I have to special order it.
