Feeding Schedule

Your best bet is to feed your layers free-choice. They're not going to eat themselves to death the way the Cornish cross meat birds will. You're more likely to hurt your egg production by restricted feeding. Hang a feeder and let them have a complete ration layer feed free choice.

Hmmm. Interesting question.

I give mine about as much as they will clean up in a morning, but, then I don't give them any more until evening, because i want them to get out in the afternoon and forage.

This seems to work pretty well. I do give oyster shell free choice.

I also want to encourage mine to forage. When i had feed out all hours, they were just going back to the feed instead of foraging, so i started withdrawing feed until evening. Then i give them just a little more than they will eat before bed. It seems to be working pretty well. They're full and healthy and growing, but they're getting a lot more of their food from the outdoors - instead of a bag.
