What did you do in the garden today?

Beautiful and bountiful tomatoes this year but we just can't keep up, we had to start preparing sauce 2 months early.

Karma my first torti cat. SHe choose me as her owner. I always thought that color was a billion cats made sweet monkey love and got that fuggly color. Learned its called torti and there 99.9 percent girls and if male sterile. A gene chromosome thing with black and orange mix . As ugly as it looks ,she the best hunter camouflage. Great personality. Real bark camo
Calico males have extra x chromosome (xxy) and some both set of chromosomes (xy and xx)

I have 7 cats. 2 tortoise shell (1 long haired, 1 short), 1 calico, 3 tabbys, and 1 long haired solid white. Only the 2 males go outside, but still....... Why on earth am I being inundated with voles when I have cats!!!!!!! I put volex in at least 3 dozen holes yesterday. They're in my lily bed, my clematis bed and my vegetable garden. The little buggars even collapsed some of my beets down into their tunnel! Seems like my cats are not earning their keep, gonna have to give them a talking to!

Decided last night to move two apple trees from the high orchard with failure to thrive, into the garden in the corners. These area are deer free, protected, higher moisture and fertilizer. The last tree we put in there in tree hospital, as little more than a deer chewed stick, is now a 6 foot tall 8 foot wide, producer. DH ate the first apple last night, pristine I think is the variety- green until they go transparent glowing yellow.
Rabbits took 5 lower apples already. This winter I'll trim UP the lower branches.

Disc is all hooked up. I'm pre UV sprayed, and cooling off. Mowing to commence in 5 minutes, after a second UV coating. LOL.

Then I'll come in and cool off, eat, and hook up the rake and spread the crap out of that hay so it can languish spread until Monday. When the dew burns off Monday, I'll windrow it.
Tuesday after lunch, I'll bale it.

That's the plan anyway.

I sifted out a good half bushel of chicken run compost and incorporated it into the now-barren garlic bed. Got it watered in a little and I'll continue hitting it with water every so often to get it good and soaked. Then I'll pile a thick layer of straw over the bed to hold in the moisture till garlic planting time in October.

Watered the onions, shallots, chives, dill and some tomatoes. And a random volunteer zinnia I noticed growing last week.

One of the best cats I ever had was a tortoiseshell, personally I think they’re absolutely beautiful.
