feeding scraps to 6 week old chicks

Some people start much younger, and others feel you should wait longer. I think the main thing is to limit quantity so that at least 90% of what they eat is their regular feed. JMO.

What about scratch grains??? I just put them in their new coop yesterday and the floor of the pen is all a sandy soil mixture with no grass... I threw a little grass clippings in there and they seemed to like it... or at least they picked at it for a while... I have only given them a little parsley one other time but they didn't seem real interested... they are mainly getting feed

Mine are only 3 weeks and I give them treats including cut up grapes, watermelon, yogurt (good at any age). Their favorite treat is small pieces of chicken which they gobble up.

I really don't know about scratch. It can be pretty big pieces. I think I'd hold off on that a while. Even the baby chick grit is pretty good size granite pieces, and mine (5 weeks) don't seem to be eating any, though they could be. Maybe stay with smaller or softer stuff for now. Most kitchen/table scraps should be fine. Mine love the bad tomatoes from the garden and watermelon.

I'll hold off on the scratch for now... sounds like I could give them small quantities of pretty much anything now if I wanted...
