Feeding Scratch

My scratch feed is usually just a big bag of birdseed. It is cheaper and if you compare the label with a bag of actual scratch it wins out on nutrition. In winter I mix cayanne pepper in to keep the squirrels and chipmunks away. I don't know if it benefits the chickens but it doesn't hurt them.:)

Thankyou so much everybody for your advice. I found scratch now here in my local pet shop. Il try my girlies with it this week along with their regular chicken feed. I love reading your feeds and chat s and advice as a newcomer to having chickens its great to read and my girlies benefit from all of your advice. keep it coming and thanks again xx

Chickens will actually eat hot peppers right off the plant. The brighter the red color is the more readily your hens will eat hot pepper. Cyanine and Tabasco peppers are two favorite chicken peppers. So forget about using hot pepper to break chickens from eating their own eggs.
