Feeding shells back...remove membrane, why?

That's all well and good, but crushed egg shells is a very poor substitute for oyster shells or other more reliable sources of Calcium Carbonate.

I do offer oyster shells as well, and they gobble them up, too!

On the odd occasion I find a cracked or broken egg in the coop, I just throw it on the ground so it breaks into pieces and the chickens have at it. They've never chocked and they don't eat their own eggs otherwise.

I should add that I offer oyster shell in addition to the eggshells. But, that wasn't the question. My chickens prefer the eggshell. But oyster shell is always available.

I rince and let air dry then crush. I sprinkle them on top of my oyster shell to get them attracted to the oyster shell! Working well
