I've just raised a small brood of chickens from eggs at a local primary school and I have persuaded the Head to keep some of them and raise them. We have bought a coop and I wanted to know what is the best feed to give them. They are about six weeks old now and are growing well, we have fed them up to now on 'chick crumbs starter food'.

you give chicks starter till 3-4 months old then grower till they are laying, then feed layer feed
starter grower can be medicated with amproylium to keep them safe from coccidiosis till they get on the ground and really do get coccidiosis
yet some people do tract in coccidiosis disease germs to young chicks
always a need to clean your feet before going in to the chick house

as I do not believe in feeding corn to any size chicken as their feed's largest ingredient is corn and at best corn is only 9-10% protein and mostly carbohydrates and fat
so if feeding a treat buy the mixed grains for the
treats as some companies do not put much corn in the scratch

always feed granite grit to chickens feed whole or cracjed grains

any questions email me
