What did you do in the garden today?

3 hrs and a broken back later, the next batch of peaches is finally processed... Well, technically it's in the water bath now but the hard part is over. I also picked up 2 lbs of strawberries. Made a couple of quarts of syrup and making fruit leather with the pulp.

Picked some pickling cukes today. Still don't have enough yet to make pickles...

Trying to stay indoors today. It's ridiculous outside today.

So, a broody hen at about 15 days in decided to get off the eggs today for an extended period of time, she had taken breaks before but not this long. After her jaunt and dustbath outside she planted herself in the coop, by herself, on a roost for several hours. The temp outside was mid 90’s. She just recently went back on the eggs after at least several hours off egg. Any thoughts on what to make of this?

What does everyone do with their kale?

I tried some of the smaller leaves off mine today. I was going to use it in salad initially but now that I’ve had it raw I’m thinking cooking it with some garlic and butter might be better, it tastes like slightly-more-bitter broccoli. 🤔

Also how well does it freeze? Would I be better off dehydrating it for long term storage?
Throw it out.

I think your eggs will be fine

Better than cooking them

If the temp is near to 100F the eggs will be fine. No broody needed to keep tgem warm.
If she doesn’t return at all, start an incubator to take it over.

Yesterday I read about another broody who abandoned her eggs for a whole week or so, the eggs started started to pip and where hatched successfully in an incubator.
