Feeding the chickens pumpkins??

Just a precaution, I put a whole pumpkin in the range and let the chickens go at it. A few days later one of my golden laced wyandottes had an impacted crop. I preformed surgery and, as you might have guessed, it was a pumpkin seed causing the problems. It was only one out of about 80 chickens to have problems, and I have been giving them pumpkins since the summer so it seems like slim odds but it may happen.

I grew a pumpkin patch this year and my chickens LOVED them. They would eat them all the way down to the skin. I would go out to their coop and it looked like sheets of orange paper but it was just pumpkin skin. I also grew corn and they devour it too.

I gave my flock 1/2 of a baked spaghetti squash. Crime scene investigators would not have found any trace evidence of that squash every being in that run, they cleaned it up so well.
