I have some pullets that are between 8- 12 weeks old. They are currently on starter crumbles. It is called Payback Organic, seems ok so far- but it has corn and soy in it. I'm running low on food for them and it's almost time to get them a new bag. I wanted to get them something better so I was searching around and found a feed called Scratch & Peck Feeds Organic Naturally Free Poultry Layer Feed, 16% protein, and it's Soy and Corn Free... But the bag says use only for chickens 18 weeks or older. So I figured they need some more starter crumble, I go to the description on the starter crumble and it says for chickens 1-8 weeks of age. Is there a special type of food they eat as "middle aged" chickens?

Grower feeds aare available, but there is nothing wrong with feeding chicks starter til the are ld enough for layer.
there is also nothing wrong with feeding adults starter or grower as well, so that chicks aren't exposed to layer too early.

I have one laying hen and 12 chicks of varying ages that will not be of laying age until the end of summer. I feed Flock Raiser.
and give the laying hen a few oyster shells as needed. She lays me a nice large egg every days. :) I plan on feeding the Flock Raiser instead of layer Mash and just leave out oyster shells.. Its a good source of protein and my chickens look great.
