Merlin just confirmed the purple finch by his song.

Yes but unlike the House Sparrow and Starling, House Finches have not been declared invasive and are protected.

They came from Mexico, and apparently some areas in the SW US.

Saw a turkey hen with perhaps week old poults in the backyard. Couldn't get close enough to see if she was one of the transmitter hens, and how many poults she had.

When they are raising little ones they empty the suet feeder at least 3 times a day here.

We are watching a couple common mergansers on the river. Tried to take a photo but it's too far to get a clear one. Checked with my neighbor to confirm which he did and he says he doesn't like them because they eat the baby salmon and steelhead. They saw one come by with 18 babies today. Yikes. There goes the fishing.

I saw a turkey hen trying/thinking ? about crossing the road with a tiny poult, may have been more in the ditch but I only saw the one, looked to be just hatched, size wise.

Turkey hen was back just a bit ago. She has 5 poults somewhere between 1 and 2 weeks old. She is not one of the 'transmitter' hens.

Not one poult have we seen, strolling hens around, singles and pairs and these are on the shoulders of the roads.

This AM mixing 2 gals of feed for the Hummer Hogs.
