Wow! So lucky!A first ever for me. Until today I had never seen a Chestnut-sided Warbler.

This little guy refused to cooperate. Every time he came out in the open, he would disappear before the camera could focus.

Thank you. I had another first yesterday. I had never before seen a Rose-breasted Grosbeak here.Wow! So lucky!
Such beautiful shots!
I finally took the time yesterday to sit out and get a few pictures of the birds that visit our feeders. I have yet to review and download them though.
Isn’t that always how it goes? No camera in hand and then all the birds hangout in plain sight. If you are all setup and ready for them then they are MIA or dancing around in the trees.Thank you. I had another first yesterday. I had never before seen a Rose-breasted Grosbeak here.

She was still here yesterday evening and would have allowed me a nice wide open close up, but of course, I didn't have the camera with me.
Try using a blind. I use my house as a very effective blind. The first thing I did was to take the upper glass out of the screen door so I can shoot through the door without the haze caused by the glass.Isn’t that always how it goes? That’s how it was for me yesterday. Not nearly as many birds came out for me to see. And the ones I really wanted pictures of kept just out of view, moved too fast, or stayed to obstructed by branches.
I must say, I’m very impressed with the clarity/focus you got in the picture that has all those branches in front of the bird. Did you shoot that one with manual focus or was the lens able to focus on the bird?
I’ll have to give that a try for the more elusive birds.Try using a blind. I use my house as a very effective blind. The first thing I did was to take the upper glass out of the screen door so I can shoot through the door without the haze caused by the glass.
I got the Chestnut-sided Warbler and Yellow-rumped Warblers by hiding behind the backhoe. I do end up having to wait for things to happen but as long as I am still, it is just a matter of time before they come out to play.
All images were taken using autofocus with the smallest possible focus area.
