That's very sad. Hope he is able to heal from that. Do you think he might have been attacked?Saw a male Grosbeak at the club this morning. Right now two of the 'transmitter' hens and one of the banded gobblers are feeding at the home feeder. The hens spend a lot of time in the backyard - figure they had failed nests this year? Haven't seen the tom in a couple of months. Apparently the breeding season was rough on him. He is significantly lame favoring his left leg.
This is most likely from a bad landing from leaving the roost. It is a relatively common problem with toms.He is significantly lame favoring his left leg.
As Mom would say, "It's a long way from his heart." Other than the limp, he is in great condition. That's very sad. Hope he is able to heal from that. Do you think he might have been attacked?
