Turkey hen came in early this morning before I had spread feed. She was feeding under the feeders gleaning what the squirrels had scattered. Slight snow this morning resulted in greatly increased feeding activity. Also noticed a pile of dove feathers - apparently a hawk (likely a Cooper's) is working the area.

I live on the East coast, New Jersey to be specific. I have lived in the same home for 54 years and have fed the wild birds that entire time. This year populations are at an all time low. I would guess somewhere around 20 % of what normally feed here and at a wildlife club where I also feed. I was wondering if anyone else has noted a similar decrease in wild bird populations. I know that West Nile hit here fairly hard last year. Perhaps that is what caused the reduction ?

Roughly 20 miles inland from LBI (Pine Barrens) and I'd say more than 20%.

My local redtail swooped by yesterday. Haven’t seen it in a while.

I need to refill the suet feeder soon. Bad weather incoming and the little birds are stuffing their faces.

Yesterday, 'Friend John' saw a white redtail about 5 miles from the club. Could this be White Bird? She is no longer in full time residence at the club.

Pile of Dove feathers, guess a hawk made a hit. Happens maybe 4-5 times a year.
