Feeding

how often do i need to feed my chickens? i have 7 week 3 days americaunas, 6 week silkies and 5 week black sex links. it seems like all they do is sleep. could i take their food out at night then put it in in the morning afternoon and evening for about an hour each time for them to eat? or is it to early to get them on a feeding schedule. they are all still inside.

Fine to take it out at night but they should have full access during the day, especially while they're still growing.

Not sure why you would want to remove food at all at any point in life unless you have rodent issues. Chickens are not like cats or dogs with overeating.

It will get old having to take food out and pick it back up. Get a good treadle feeder with a spring loaded door and a counterweight and leave the food out 24/7. They will eat only what they need.

ok thanks. i didn’t know if that would help with a couple of them because one of them keeps throwing some clear liquid up and i didn’t know if it was eating much. he seems like he’s always eating

Wonder if that particular bird has crop issues. Might want to isolate it for a day or two and monitor how the crop behaves.

Sour crop maybe? Does his breath smell and feel squishy in the chest area?
