Is it better to feed your flock once a day or fill the feeder up?

Chickens eat over the course of the day to fill their crops and digest at night, I'd fill the feeder in the morning, 3-4 ozs per chicken.

Free feed. It's better that they can always have access to food, so they can eat whenever they need too. Chickens are good at regulating their food intake and will not overeat.

I keep the feeders full, and rotate them through the coop sections, so the food is fresh all the time. Chickens eat more in winter cold, and when there aren't goodies in snow and frozen ground. Free choice feeding is best, IMO.

They are free range chickens and have plenty of room to roam.

I also free feed, my chickens seem to eat in small periods throughout the day!

I have two main flocks barred rocks and leghorns and a small silkie flock. When I fill the feeder up they eat it all in 1 - 2 days. There is 11 leghorns and 11 barred rocks. The silkies don't eat that much but I still feed them once a day.

I feed once a day since we have a bad mouse problem in most of the flocks, but if I didn't have them then I'd free feed

I just make sure the feeder always has food in it.
