Glad you joined us!

I give my birds as much feed as they will eat in a day. If they still have feed left over the next morning I cut them back, and if they are cleaning it up in just a couple of hours, I give them some more. Good luck with your flock!

Thanks :) I will do that bcuz they are always acting like they are starving :) He says its because I give them treats multiple times thru out day & they are spoiled lol.

Corn does little for chickens except make them fat. Your husband may be right, treats should not make up more than 10% of the food. How old are your girls? What breed are they? Are they laying or at point of lay? They shouldn't get layer feed until that time

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I too agree treats should not make up more than 10% of your girls diet. For all my birds they have crumb, grower or layer pellets available at all times depending on the birds age. They then have in the afternoon only a handful of corn for the adult birds scattered so they can have a scratch around for it. Any other teats given later in the day and then I know they have had all the balanced food before hand.

Wishing you the very best of luck with your girls and enjoy BYC :frow

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

I let my hens have access to their feed 24/7. It's inside so no predators or rodents can get into it. I don't have to worry about forgetting to feed them because they always have it available. And chickens generally know when to stop. They won't over eat and get fat.

They just started laying 2weeks ago. They are Red Sextons that I got from TSC at 16 weeks old, so about 6months old. I feed them about a cup of corn and a cup of crumble 2x a day. Their treats are kitchen scraps (frozen if its hot), clover & any weeds, bugs, worms I dig up thru out the day. I really appreciate any tips because I'm totally don't know what I'm doing but I'm already in love w/them & scared I'm doing things wrong. I usually google things (like the weird rubber egg I got the other day) and thats how I came across this blog. I'm very glad to find this page :) THANK YOU ALL.

Within 3 hours one of my girls died, she was fine when I got home at 3pm She was laying in nesting box tho. Im very brokenhearted
