So last March we decided to get chickens for the first time. We ordered 9 from a hatchery and paid extra to get them all sexed. Accidents happen though and we ended up with a Lavender orpington roo. He was a shy friendly chick but once he hit 5 months he started acting aggressive. We tried all the tricks we read about online, but he only seemed to be getting worse. By the time last week rolled around, he was pecking at the side of the coop trying to get at us and we just had to drop the chicken food in the coop and run. This really wasn't fair to our hens so we tried to rehome him.
Luckily, we found someone with a farm who's rooster just got killed by a fox. We were very transparent about his human aggression but he was protective and kind to the hens so the man decided to take him. Today is the first morning without him. I miss his crow and beautiful tail feathers, I'm wondering if he's scared and confused and missing his family, I feel like I've failed him somehow. Has anyone else ever felt this way, even if their roo was aggressive?
