Well my last chick of the season hatched yesterday and I feel totally lost. No more random staring at the incubator. No more hunting down the "good" flashlight for candling. No more hallucinating "peeps" days before a hatch is due.

I was really wanting some "SQ" banty cochins this year to raise up for the state fair next year. - That didn't work out. But I did get lots of cute crossbred chicks and some darling starts to my sizzles.

Maybe this fall I will try to get some more cochin eggs - I just swore off winter brooding.

Well little incubator - its in to the garage for you...

Hee hee. I'm on my second incubation (and my last one for the year). I'm dreading the silence of the unplugged egg turner.

I feel for you.

You'll just have to break out the livestock catalogs and start dreaming and planning for next year. Just try to save a little money for buying fertile eggs, and don't spend it all on incubator equipment and cool new gadgets.

Well, NewChickMom, after reading your thread about the Call of the Incubator, at least I know I won't have to listen to "silence" after all. There will be plenty of voices to fill the void of the egg turner's motor.

So you are saying I should wrap it in blankets and tape it in a wooden box so I won't hear it calling to me?

I have two of them you know... I think they talk to each other.

BTW - Buckette and the ducket crew are doing good. Looks like three girls and a boy. My husband is building them a floating duck house out of scrap lumber from our addition.

I'm gonna make a video of them later - after the building inspector dude comes by.

Yay for city inspectors

Video is made - will be posting it in the duck section as soon as it finishes downloading to photobucket.

One of the ducks bobs her head incessantly and I'm trying to discover why.
