My grandmother is 91 and lives on a huge corner lot. Think the neighbors with the horse chestnut tree on the adjacent lot would even consider raking the leaves from THEIR tree that fall on her parking strip? They've never once done it that I'm aware of.

So sorry to hear you have crummy neighbors. We have always had good neighbors. Granted over half are related but the new ones are nice to. Everyone watches out for each other and that is how neighbors should be. If I were you I would not mow that strip they leave.

Dont mow that strip, trim your mailbox, not his, and when it gets out of hand go ask how long the weedeater has been broken!

DO NOT give any of those eggs to anyone till they return the nice neighbor warm fuzzies!

Options and/or suggestions:

1. freeze some eggs in ice cube trays for later use in baking
2. give your hard working ladies some scrambled eggs for treats
3. Give some eggs to your local food pantry / mission
4. Make some pound cakes & freeze for another time
5. Make some custard pies!
6. STOP MOWING THE STRIP THE NEIGHBORS DON'T MOW!
7. STOP APOLOGIZING for not feeling overly generous toward your
self-centered neighbors!
8. Stop doing any weedeating except around your own yard, mailbox, fence, etc. If they leave theirs
undone, consider it a "mini-meadow"

Sell them the eggs then use the money to buy a weed eater but dont touch that mailbox or the strip of grass! Good neighbors are hard to come by...

Many people like that just don't get the whole friendly neighbor thing; it sounds to me like yours are going out of their way to be jerks.

We live outside of the city limits in Knoxville (not country though) and we help our neighbors and they help us all the time. It makes life a whole lot easier when you have friendly neighbors. I would SELL them the eggs at $3 a dozen like others have said... no need to give them away when they're not helping you in any way.

YES! People are extremely self-centered nowadays! I could go on for hours about all the selfish lazy things people do in and around their own home. It's like they have no pride, self respect or consideration for anyone anymore. UH! That's why I moved to a property where I don't have neighbors - or at least I can't see or hear any

Your neighbors are jerks, but they sound like TOTLLY average people to me, that's just the way the world is now, it's horrible but true... I honestly think it's because of kids growing up in the city in small cramped places instead of on farms. I think seeing animals eat, give substinance (Milk, meat, eggs) die, give birth etc really helps children to learn to nurture and sympathize, plus it keeps them from growing up to be anti social, selfish, lazy adults...

As per some of the replies to the OP... People are certainly self centered, but people are also WAY too sensitive! Who cares who owns the tree for crying out loud! if you're (un)fortunate enough to buy a place w/ a tree you should be obligated to go rake up all the leaves? thats ludacris! The tree could just as easily be planted on public property, what then? Leaves, debris and garbage will end up finding it's way to your property, people need to deal with it! Thats life, it sucks, but if you get wound up about every little thing you'll be a nervous wreck!

If you don't like it you better put up a huge fence... I just think it's rediculous to expect everyone with a tree to pick up leaves that blow around, it's an act of nature... I can see if your trash blows over or your dog happens to wonder to the neighbors and poops (Our dog did that on rare occassions when we were getting out of the car, distracted by kids he'd tromp to neighbors and mark/deposit.) We always cleaned things like that up and always helped neighbors, especially the elderly, but never because we felt obligated to clean up after our tree! hahahahaha

There is a different psychology to moving into a military community vs. civillian. Way different.
When I drove up to on post housing with three kids under 8 at Ft. Campbell the details of settling in were taken care of by my neighbors. We probably didn't cook dinner for ourselves for a week, the kids went to the pool with another family while we got the phone turned on. When the husband was deployed for a year I NEVER mowed my own lawn or paid to have my oil changed in my car. Now I live in the civilian world and when a tree fell on my house people drove by like nothing happened. Sadly, it is just a different mentality.
