Feeling sorta stingy with my eggs....a completely pointless rant.

OK now see, I soent the first 5 years of my life in a small town, then lived in the country on a farm till I was 13, then lived in a bigger city till I was 21, and now live in po-dunk again. So, I understand the friendly/nosey neighbor bit, waving at everyone who drives by, stopping in unannounced, all that. But after spending 8 years in a rough Wyoming town, I know I come across to these rural MN folk as rude, because I do have a lot of the "i take care of mine and you take care of yours" survival habits that come from living in a place like that. I dont make eye contact with strangers, I dont drive by the neighbors place slowly to check out the lawn, where I am from being "friendly/nosey" is an invitation to get shot! But, I also wouldnt leave half my yard for the neighbor to mow, get help from them and not return the favor, or ask for anything without paying or trading. THere is a line between the city mentality and selfishness and it sounds to me like you have a bunch of selfish shelfish hanging around!

I wish you were my neighbor, you sound so sweet! You don't need to feel guilty about not giving away your eggs for nothing. I love the idea of donating them, that way they are being used to feed someone that needs the nourishment and you can feel good about helping someone truly in need.

We used to have neighbors like yours, just very indifferent to others. Our current neighbors, not that you can actually see them, are great. We've got a great barter system worked out with them. They use our outbuilding for storage and in exchange plow our field in the winter and bushwack it in the summer. It's great!

I hope things work out well for you!

A sign, a sign, a handpainted countrified sign on an old weathered board says EGgs $3.00 a dozen nailed to a tree close to the road in your front yard. If you don't sell to the neighbors, you might sell to another passerby. Offset that chicken feed and toss those limbs back into the yard from wence they hailed! Maybe then someone will get a clue.
