Feels like a chicken coop building kind of weekend!

The chicks are ready to move to their forever home...however we're very behind due to weather. Looks like we will be building for 3 days straight now with 4 people!! Here's what we have to date with the exception of a few things we've done since these photos. Can't wait to see it all finished...will post new progress pics!

I like the idea of a pallet coop. I plan on going that route myself as I can get them free.

Your is looking good. Never thought of using straw as insulation.
 
oh there are a lot of layers to go yet! We are going to use straw as part of the insulation, a vapor barrier, siding on the outside and plywood on the inside. I am very protective of my girls...there will be NO gaps when im finished!!!

Mice will love the straw as their home. Chickens need ventilation so the moisture from breathing and pooping can escape while they sleep. Have you read the Modern Fresh Air Poultry House book?
