Feet color of Barred Rocks

Thanks for the info. Honestly, I didn't even know there was such a thing as "chicken shows" until I got on this web site looking for information about keeping them healthy over the winter, so showing them never even crossed my mind.

They are decent egg layers. In fact,up until last week (It's 5 degrees above 0 now) we were getting 35 beautiful eggs out of the 5 hens, each week. The rooster might end up a soup though. He's getting a bit bossy. We had hoped to keep him around at least until the spring time so we could let our kids hatch some eggs. I was hoping they might be barred rocks because I had heard how cold-hardy they can be, what great egg layers they are, and what nice personalities they can have. But, those yellow legs are a pretty clear indicator that that is not what I have!

Take a pic of the eggs, are they a dark brown color?

Here are some of the hens. No leg shots but they look similar to the roosters but with less pink and more white/grey in them.

I agree they look like cuckoo colored Marans. They're supposed to lay a dark chocolate colored egg, how do yours look?

Medium brown egg-not anything as dark as I have seen on-line for Marans. I saw a color chart and the eggs range from a 3 to a 4 on the color scale. I think I just have "Mutt" chickens which is fine because they seem to be handling the cold well and are laying lots of eggs for us. They are not very tame though. One will eat out of my son's hands and if we sit still, they'll come up to us. They certainly don't care to be petted or caught but will tolerate it.

Pretty nice! Not the extreme dark a lot of folks go for, but really not bad for hatchery stock.

If you were to try and enter them in any show, even a local Fair type show, however modest, they'd not be allowed as Barred Rocks. They are lovely birds, Enjoy them. Quite likely they are Cuckoo Marans mix or another barred mix. Who knows. There are a number of Barred breeds that could be in their lineage, especially since barring gets passed on so easily in the genetic soup of cross bred birds. You inherited them with no information, so the best you can do is think of them as good chickens. Enjoy.

Where can i get good quality barred rocks like these? i bought a ton from murry mcmurry and they are all turning out to look alot like the cuckoo. thanks in advance.
