Female duck tapping ground with beak?

So a little while ago I used to own ducks before they just became a little to much for me. Although one question me and my family always had about about them was the female ducks behavior. So on most days we would free range our ducks around the yard and often the male would lead his 2 females we had at the time all around. What we never understood was why always one out of the two females would make this muffled quacking noise as she walked and almost air tap the ground with her beak to point out it was hers. We always found it funny and assumed it was just a way they marked territory though we were never completely sure and wanted to ask here.
Plus it’s my brothers birthday and he is obsessed with ducks and wanted to know why for his birthday!

I have that breed too and I’ve not seen that behavior but they can be pretty nutty.
