Noticed my female duck pass droppings and there was some clear slime in it.

I checked her out because I was concerned she had an egg that had broke. She was sick earlier this year and has been laying intermittently since. I can feel an egg but it is not quite close to her vent yet and it feels intact. I'm seeing some people say discharge is normal with newer egg layers and this is her first year laying.

Any opinions or input? Thanks!

Any change in diet or could she have got a hold of something she shouldn't eat?

Same diet. I mean it is possible she could have picked something up, but we try to keep everything and anything out of their range. She's been acting fine and eating the same.

They've been in their coop for the past few days as well because the weather has been horrid with strong winds and lightning so what they can get into is limited more then it would be outside. But they were outside today. She was preening and eating and washing like normal and is still acting fine, I might just be over reacting but I was wondering if this was normal.

I have occasionally seen something like that with my ducks. I don't want to sound strange, but if anything unusual comes out the vent, I not only look closely, but I check to see if it has an off odor. Infections often smell really bad.

There is a milky discharge that they have when they are "in the mood," and sometimes I think there is a clear discharge as well that lubricates the vent prior to laying an egg. If anyone can confirm that, that would be great.

I think you are wise to be concerned rather than ignore it.

I think you were right on the money! She laid a nice egg this morning with no trouble and today she hasn't been spurring my males "advances" so it's safe to say she's "in the mood" (; thanks for the reply, I feel much better now!
