Is it normal for female geese to sometimes fight with a gander that is trying to mate them? I’ve seen them mate before and am pretty sure the one is female, but I’m not 100% sure yet as I haven’t gotten any eggs yet and this is their first laying season.

Ganders are more likely to fight, but fighting and mating wrestles can look the same sometimes, I’ve seen females wrestle with males prior to mating.

Sometimes females will actually fight with ganders, it’s more uncommon but I have had a few amazon warriors in my flock. 😂
I guess it depends on their personality/mood.

The gander I know for sure is the white one with a little grey around his eye. The goose/gander in question is the other one in the first picture (half grey/half white)

Usually they’ll wrestle a little before they mate but today it got taken to a whole new level, which is why I’m questioning. The one that I think is a goose has a very dominant personality and has since a baby

I had the same exact problem last year., and I did not know that "she" was really a "he" until one day when they were fighting in the pool and i actually SAW the penis .... only then I knew for sure!!
