female gosling pulling out the feathers of a male.

Is that normal. She is making him bleed and no idea why. I have seperated for the night. How do I get her to stop? They are only a few old.

This happened to my male mallard last year... I looked online and it said that sometimes the male will sacrifice feathers to make a nest for the female

How old are your goslings? Are you feeding them greens? Chopped lettuce, grass, dandalions etc. seem to help with feather pulling. there is a bitter apple spray that they don't like the taste of. Hope some of this helps.

They are a little over three weeks old. I haven't been giving them greens. I will try that. And can I get that spray at a farm supply store? Thank you it does help hopefully it'll work.

My American goslings starting picking at my Sebbies when their feathers started coming in. I think they were bored in their brooder. I moved them to a kennel outside on the grass and that put an immediate stop to the feather picking.

I was giving them greens while they were inside, so I think the solution was more from the added space to roam and the constant supply of other things to pick st.

I don't know if you can buy bitter apple ate farm stores but most pet stores carry it. It's also used on dogs to keep them from chewing on themselves. or furniture.
