We have a female pekin who seems to be causing problems, I'm not sure exactly what she is doing and why but it's getting her in trouble. She does this whole head bobbing thing. Since she has started doing it our two female mallards started too. I tried looking up a video and this is the only one I see the ducks doing what she is doing so heres the vid. It's at :31

She's been doing it to our gander. And today when we ran out for an hour to do some stuff and came back I noticed she was a bit banged up looking so I grabbed her and looked at her and sure enough she's had a few feather's plucked out of her back and was bleeding (right in the middle of her back between her wings). I am assuming he got tired of her and attacked her. Is there a reason she is doing this? Is it a dominance thing? All of my ducks are about 4 months old or so. Along with the Gander, he's about 5-6 months and our female goose is a little over a year.

... she is doing the 'PLEASE mate me dance'

And he DID- but fell off, his claws cut her...

clean her up and she'll be ok.

The feathers will wear at the neck and the middle of the back.

You'll have fertile eggs soon.

I agree with the others that your girl is flirting and that someone took up the invitaton but was too heavy/rough.

I know from your other thread that you have a young drake, but he is probably too young to show any interest in mating. He will when he gets closer to 6 months old. Do you have any other male ducks? If it is only the gander then it might be worth seeing if you can keep them fenced apart, at least till she heals up (which shouldn't take too long).

Also, you won't have fertile eggs if it's only the gander that's mating with her

I messed up on age, not that it matters lol All of my ducks are about 3 months old and the gander is 4. I figured they were too young to be doing anything just yet. I don't really have the space to separate anybody right now. Tonight I saw the gander go after her. He definetly wasn't trying to mate with her, more of he got extremely annoyed with her and told her who was boss as he grabbed her back and kicked her. I've seen ducks mate and this was definetly not what he was doing lol Our drakes are the same age as the ducks and haven't seen them remotely interested. We do have a year old Muscovy drake but he won't give the other ducks a second look, he has his scovy girls and he sticks with them lol. You guys may be right and she is flirting but I think, after seeing what I saw tonight, she's flirting with the wrong boy LOL (she does have good taste though, he is a good lookin' fella). We rescued this duck from a city person who thought it was a good idea to get some ducks for Easter. She may be older then the others which may contribute to her behaviour, she's been a pesky little thing since we put her in with our flock....thinks she runs the place and I think the others are finally getting sick of her antics as they sometimes try and stay away from her and her obnoxious behaviour. Thank you for your input though :) And I know, no fertile eggs are going to come of a duck/goose combo

No, that doesn't sound like true love to me, LOL. Hopefully she will learn to keep her distance from him, good lookin' fella though he may be
