Something is wrong with my Chicken. A week ago I had an almost 6-month-old hen. Since then, her comb and waddle have gotten red-er. Greenish black feathers have popped up. and most of all she started crowing and attaching a toy with her hackle feathers raised. I have done some googling and it is gender change is something that can happen, but mostly through diseases. I know it's not normal and I don't know what to do for her/him/them. She has also had problems in the past with tendon damage on her right foot if that affects anything. I only have one Chicken, and I know I should have at least two but I tried raising chickens before and I failed traumatically before they were even a month old, so I had no intention of getting another chicken. But then there was a little chick 1-3 days old being kicked out of her flock by her mother and the next thing I know I have a new pet, and I'm surprised she is still alive.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?
