first time at raising turkeys. have 3 hens and a tom, they're 4mo. old. have a hen that acts like she's in a trance at times then she comes out of it and acts just fine. not sure if this is normal or not. not sure if they're bronze breasted or just plain bronze, got them at a farm store this spring.

If they are 4 months old and have been on a good turkey starter then they should be about 30lbs by now if broad breasted. If they are still thin then they are standards.

When a hawk flies over, or even is soaring very, very high, all the turkeys will freeze. Usually most of them will all cock their heads in the same direction and look at teh bird with one eye. If I follow the gaze, I can usually, but not always, see the bird they are looking at. I can usually give a few chirps as an "all clear" and they snap out of it, even if the hawk is still visible. Perhaps you have a jumpier bird that is more prone to false alarms? Or its the only bird you have with any sense
