FENCE HEIGHT

Depends on the age and breed of the chicken. All of my 2015's could land on the 5' tall gate from slightly downhill last year. Several of them would greet me up by the house in the morning even though they were supposed to be "contained". I've not seen them do it this year. Maybe because they've gotten heavier though the 2 Exchequer Leghorns are still small bodied birds.

You can get netting but I would more likely do that to prevent aerial predation than to keep the birds in. At that size you'll need support poles or tensioned wire.

BTW poultry wire is not predator proof. Coons can reach through and snag a chicken laying against the fence. Larger predators can rip it apart.
