Fence height

Hi all
I’m going to get some silkie bantams and was wondering what height the fence should be around the enclosure as I have dogs and don’t want the chickens to get out

3' should be high enough but go for 4' to be certain. Dogs topping fence may require additional height.

The dogs won’t jump the fence as they are small but I was worried about the chickens jumping it

You need a bantam silkie person pop in to confirm flying abilities. I assume very poor capacity for even clambering.

I have Bantam/cinnamon mixes and they clear my 4 ft fence... even after clipping both primaries and 1 secondary wing. I gave up at that point. Easier to train the dogs.

See thread below. Birds used like have better flight capacity than half silkies and certainly better than full silkies.

I installed a 4 foot fence and some of my chickens (leghorn, Rhode Island Red) flew out and were killed by my dog. In retrospect I wish I would have gone 5 feet. The chickens that are left (dominique, Campine and Australorp) seem to be content staying in the fence. I also started throwing them some scratch feed in the morning to make staying in the fenced area more attractive. So far so good.
