Fence height

I installed a 4 foot fence and some of my chickens (leghorn, Rhode Island Red) flew out and were killed by my dog. In retrospect I wish I would have gone 5 feet. The chickens that are left (dominique, Campine and Australorp) seem to be content staying in the fence. I also started throwing them some scratch feed in the morning to make staying in the fenced area more attractive. So far so good.

Next time clip both wings like that before giving up on wing clipping option.

I’m going to get some silkie bantams and was wondering what height the fence should be around the enclosure as I have dogs and don’t want the chickens to get out

Unless you have like a 30 foot wall or higher, if the chickens want to jump over it..... they most likely can.

Alright, I might have been over-exaggerating a bit but...... I remember an American game chicken that I had and he flew over a 7 foot high fence with ease. Point is, these booger chickens can probably surprise you at how high they can jump.

I clipped primaries and 1 secondary on her and both primary and secondary wings on her sister and it did not change much. I am making it more scary for them to try to hop out with thin string line above the fence line, just added shade cloth and more string.
