Hello all,

We are in the middle of gutting the old chicken coop that is on our property. We (my husband) has that task pretty well in hand.

My question is about the fencing. I made it clear to him that we can not use chain link or chicken wire. I want the small wire welded fencing but I'm having a hard time finding it in a size bigger than 30in in height.

I did want the run to be high enough that I could walk in there.

Is there a wire fencing that I'm overlooking that is taller than what I've been finding? Or is there another alternative?

Thanks!

Tami

I'm not sure where exactly you could look for it, but I saw something at the salvage yard they called "dog wire" that was welded wire with fairly small holes, looked to be about 4 or 5 feet tall, and was about $30 for either a 50 or 100 foot roll.

Come to think of it, I haven't put the height on the run yet. I might just go back and see about that myself.

But they called it "dog wire" and it came on a roll.

Good luck finding what you need! It's been frustrating for me, and I GOTTA get these chicks outside! (Need some sunny days to build!)

Sorry for the double reply but ... can you maybe just put two rows in, one above the other? If necessary, you could put a wooden crosspiece running horizontally and attach the wire to that to get 60"? Or maybe you can attach the wire fencing together and not use the wood. You might be able to "sew" it together with wire, which is what I've considered for joining my fencing panels together.

Can't answer your fence question but what kind of Lexus do you have? Or is it just that you make keys for them? :p

My chickens and car are my two hobbies

BYC and clublexus are my two stomping grounds.

I used 6 ft. chicken wire with 3 ft. hardware cloth at the bottom. I did sew at the top where there was about a foot of space (used an gazebo frame that was 7ft tall) and it's working fine. I ran a few leftover furring strips across the middle to keep the fencing tight and it was simple to do. I'd recommend just having two rolls vertically rather than giving yourself a headache searching for the elusive 5/6 ft. tall rolls!

I was afraid of that. I was just hoping to find a taller roll. It would be so much easier and cheaper if they sold it in a taller roll. I will keep looking locally (have found it online in 60in. height but shipping is way too expensive.) and if I can't find it then I will put 2 rolls together. Maybe a fence company will have it.

Thanks.

Go to a local agriculture co-op or a feed store or hardware store. If they don't have it they can order it. I purchased a 100ft roll of welded wire that was 72 inches. It is out there. You just have to find who will get it for you.
