Fencing options for chicken yard......

The easiest thing is to simply lay a width of fence flat on the ground, and cover it with a thin layer of dirt. The grass will grow up through it and you can mow over it.

I used an 18 inch strip, and attached it to the bottom of my run.

You can buy whats called "apron fencing" that has a hinged bottom piece already attached.

You cant see the wire in this pic, but the bare dirt area around the run is where the wire lays just under the surface

I`m so envious. I moved my few remaining breeders to GA last summer. Prior to that I was located on a coon highway. Nothing but predator problems. For weeks on end I averaged 5-6 coons a week in my trap and on 2 occasions had 2 in the trap at the same time. Everything from bobcats to hawks invaded my yard. Even though my place in GA is very remote, I haven`t had nearly the same problems as FL. Thanks for the pics. Looks and sounds very nice.......Pop

I don't know if you have a Grainger's in your area, but you can buy 100' of 36" hardware cloth for about 80.00 and change. Maybe just to do the bottom of your run with it? Can't hurt to check it out.

I see this is very old by now but I love this fence and my wife and I are wanting to upgrade the janky fence we currently have. I was wondering how far you have between each vertical post and the specs of all the wood (the 2x4 and 4x4 L,W&H).

Thanks!
Looks like 8' sections. We used the 2"x4" Welded Wire Fencing like this on our run. 6' tall x 8' sections. I used 36" wide fencing and put a 8' brace down the center for the overlap.

Our coop is getting extended lengthwise this summer and the run will be bumped out.
