Feral kittens! When's the best time to catch mom?

I trapped a feral mom, with an extra large dog crate. Put food in the crate and tried a rope to the door.
Had to get a neighbor with a large van to haul us to the vet. No way we were opening the door.

I knew she had a history of having 2 litters a year at the neighbors. They would take the kittens and adopt them out. When they moved "Cleo" moved into my backyard. (Yeah I'm the sucker with food) I waited till she had her next litter and one day I heard a kitten screaming. Found a kitten on the other side of the fence. I jumped over and grabbed it, searched and found another. They were about 2 + weeks old. A week later the mom was watching me do yardwork from the safety of the bamboo thicket. When I stopped for a break she started yowling like all the hounds of hell were after her. I walked over to see what was going on and found a 3rd kitten in a chicken nest. I think she wanted all her kittens together. All were male, I raised them and found homes for 2 of them together, kept the other one, named him Imp.

I trapped her a couple months later. After getting spayed, I tried to keep her inside, from October till about April. She was miserable. Hid all day long terrified of me and the other cats. Would only come out at night climb on a windowsill and howl, all night long. Finally when the weather warmed up and I opened the door and let her out. Now she lives with another of the cats abandoned by that neighbor, in my shed, get fed twice a day.

Here's Cleo's friend Zulukhan.

It will cause her discomfort to do this while she is nursing, but if you need to be sure and mention that she is nursing to the vet spaying her so that he/she can work around the mammary glands during the procedure.
