Went brain dead at the farm store and ended up buying 100lbs of crumble food. Normally I'll buy mixed grain food which I then ferment. Can crumbles be fermented? Is there any benefit to doing so? Thanks.

I have fermented grains as well as pellets/crumbles. The latter takes a LOT MORE water. It also seems to make a bigger mess. It dried up in my one girl's beard and got all crusty, then the other girls proceeded to pluck out her beard for a tasty snack. The process is the same, the chickens will eat it either way, my personal choice going forward is only to ferment grains and leave the crumbles dry.

I ferment crumbles, did have issues with bearded/feather footed but making it "firmer" makes a difference as well at a good feeder. I only have 4 BOs & use a plastic square molded dog dish. Crumble/pellets SWELL UP , I use the ratio of 1:1 adding more water after it swells up/couple hours. Same benefits :)
