I'm trying to start fermenting some seeds for the quail, but half of the seeds aren't sinking. should i continue or will it become moldy? if so, how to sink the seeds?

All of the information I've read on fermenting feed is for standard feeds, not seeds. Can you post a picture of your feed and a picture of the nutrion label from it?

I ferment whole grains and sunflower seeds, and the sunflower seeds float like yours. As they absorb water some sink but some are still floating when I come to use them, and I've never had a problem with mould. I've been doing this for several years now. So I wouldn't worry about it.

There's very little point fermenting processed feed by the way; the benefits accrue with whole grains and seeds.

That 10% notion is just nonsense. Seeds are nutritious, they're not sweets.
It depends on the quality of the feed you have for them. Most commercial feeds are formulated with the ideal nutrition in mind. If you feed more than 10% other things, you are throwing that balance off. Quail often prefer seeds, hence calling them treats.

No, most commercial feeds are formulated with the minimum essential nutrients at the least cost for a short productive life in mind. Only ideal for the commercial producer.

Thanks! I wouldn't even consider fermenting their old crumbles... it would just be mush..
