I have been feeding fermented feed for a few weeks now. I have twelve 10 week old chicks. For those of you who use fermented feed, what kind of feeder do you use? I have tried to research this and have seen trough type of feeders made out of gutters and pvc pipe. It seems those don't get washed. I have been using 2 clear plastic refrigerator organizer bins. I wash them every day. But, the one is big enough for them to stand in it - yuck poop! And the other is easy to knock over. I would like a better solution. Do the gutter/pvc troughs not have to be washed? Ever? Any ideas? Thanks!

When I use white plastic gutter, I wash them two or three times a week.
I now mostly use black rubber feed tubs small enough that they don't stand in them.

Thanks for your reply. I do not know what black rubber feed tubs are. Can I find them online?

I use an ordinary round feeder; I use a slotted spoon to transfer the ff from the ferment vessel to it, and I wash the feeder approx every other day (i.e. whenever it looks dirty).

I have the smallest one available at TSC. They have many sizes.
I use for water in the winter and wet feed in the summer. 20180705_135526.jpg . GC

Same here. I use the two smallest sizes but I have 3 of the large ones for foot baths when it is extremely hot. Most of my English, Continental and American class chickens would use them all the time. Now I only have Mediterranean class chickens and they don't use them at all.
I'm glad this subject came up. I need to break out the gutter sections for the larger flocks so all can eat at once.

Don't they knock those bowls over and step in them and poop in them? My chicks are so so so messy. Mine are only 10 weeks old, do they get more "civilized" as they get older?

They're much more civilized when they have food available all waking hours. When feed is restricted/rationed, they are ravenous.

I use bowls from yard sales.
Ceramic, heavy bottomed, and aprox 4-5” diameter. They have never stepped in them or knocked them over. It’s a certain size&shape but to me the heavy bottom is the key. I pick em’ up and wash after they’re done. Easy-Peasy. But I only have 4 chickens so.....
