Fermented feed

Thank you, Chebird, yes, what is ff. Iknow about ff food for me, but what is it that all of you are using, are you fermenting it yourself or buying it???
I think many people ferment a formulated ration - I ferment a non-GMO chick starter crumble (but pellets can be fermented, too) as the base feed for all my fowl (chickens, ducks, geese) and modify as needed for their stage of growth (e.g., lower protein for ducklings 3+ weeks old and all waterfowl get added nutritional yeast). I ensure that some is left from each batch to serve as a "starter" for the next.

Instead of making the FF, why not give them yogurt as a probiotic.

People do. Fermenting feed means not having to supplement with yogurt (not that we have to!) and it’s supposed to make the feed last longer, with less spilled or chicken-dumped feed. The latter can also be accomplished by soaking, which I do.

I have successfully fermented other foods, but it didn’t work when I first tried it with chick starter. Later I thought it was probably too cold in my kitchen. It’s ridiculously easy. I’ll try it again.
