I feed my grown chickens half a cup each once a day. Since I have 8 chickens, I put out 4 cups of feed. They seem to do fine on a once daily feeding, but I guess I hadn't thought about it.. Mine also free range. For the babies, I feed twice for the older babies and have it out a lot for the young babies.Ok, I just brought a gallon or so of layer feed up and covered in with lukewarm water. I'll put a splash of OR ACV in it as well. Now, my question is this...I have 10 mostly grown chickens. About how much should I feed them? And, once or twice daily?
I'm getting ready to do my medicated chick feed the same way, so I need the same questions answered for them. They are right at 6 weeks old. I have been letting them out to "free range" in the big girl coop while they are out really free ranging.
Thx, for answers!
1. I am.
2. 2 weeks.
3. (Constantly changing) 5 gallon bucket with chicken mash, water and ACV scoop to another bucket taking lots of liquid add dry sweet 16 till the next day it is a little dryer than oatmeal consistency
4. Chicken mash made of corn, oats, poultry base. The last 4 days have been adding sweet 16 in the 2nd bucket.
5. Undecided but I think I am starting to see good result since I added the sweet 16. Not sure if the shiny feathers I am seeing today are from fermenting or sweet 16. Going to keep doing it though because I think it causes less waste and better use of what they eat even if that is sweet 16.
Not sure what sweet 16 is but ACV is apple cider vinegar- you will want to use the kind with "mother" in it.what is sweet 16 and acv scoop I am just learning about fermenting![]()

You did stir and mix it all together, yes?

You might know already, but you don't need anything besides your feed and water to start the fermenting process.ACV is just an added bonus.
Sweet 16 is a multiple grain base with molasses to hold it together. Not very high in protiin so you need more. Google "nutrients of grains." It'll tell you about all the different kinds and what percent of protein. Fermenting the feed allows the chicken to access more of the nutrients. In other words, you won't find grains or corn in their poo.![]()
