Thank you bee for teaching us all about the amazing f.f.! I wouldn't have such healthy and beautiful birds if it weren't for this thread and all y'all smart folks on here!

I brought some into work yesterday because i was trading 4 hens (for what i was told were bantams... um they were brahmas!) and selling 2 roos and i brought feed to show the new owners and so i had something for them through out the day... I had several people comment on it and i had to spheal on and on over and over lol... but i put layer, starter/grower, show bird, calf manna, scratch, and alfalfa cubes *shrug* my birds think its the best, even the new girls took a liking to it right away :) they also got to snack on cuccumber halves for enthused customers lol, im sorry but people are too easily amused :p

Watch that show bird and manna....can be too rich in the long run and cause some organ damage with continual use.

But, from what others report, those feeding feeds that have fish meal, meat meal, etc. are reporting some pretty foul odors when they ferment...which won't change the fermentation process but might just smell like you've got a dead whale rotting away in your backyard.

I just wanted to report on my experience fermenting the fish/meat meal. After 24 hours or so of soaking, all of the feed would float to the top and leave the water on the bottom of the bucket! Even when I stirred it up really well it wouldn't take long for that to happen again. So for now, since I got some grain-based feed again, I'm fermenting the grain feed and then mixing a few scoops of the fish/meat meal feed in with the extra liquid. I'll do that until I'm out of the fish stuff. It stinks (ha!) because the fish meal stuff was cheaper and closer to buy (and soy free), but I really want to be able to ferment it!
