Oh! How much of the Oregano and garlic do you give them. We'll have 10-12 chicks depending on how many survive shipping.
I cut up one clove of garlic...and i pull maybe 20 little leaves of oregano of my plant and cut it up...put it in their feed.

So true! Everyone kept saying, "It's easy!!" But I am so nervous I'm going to do something wrong and kill them :\You are most welcome!
I know raising chicks are very stressful....
why doesn't anyone tell us this before we buy them?
That makes sense about the heart...gristly muscle.Anything soft and not with a lot of fascia...liver is good, heart is too firm and full of tendon for them to peck out pieces. Anything on the deer where they can peck off small pieces that are easily digested.
That's a really good deal! I "charge" anyone hunting our land a haunch only. Last fall, first day of bow season, they harvested 4 nice bucks, so I had 4 haunches to can up and one son even shared his tenderloin with us that day. I also managed to wrangle a neck roast or two.
Now THAT's a true friend!!!!That makes sense about the heart...gristly muscle.
Wow, that's a load of meat coming in on first day. Canning it...wish I was skilled in canning!!! You pressure can I presume?
Oh, and one other thing...he brings the meat to me already butcher-paper wrapped and marked!!!!<grin> Like I said, he's a good old friend...bicycling buddy, used to go swimming in the creek together, camping, hunting arrowheads, getting in trouble...oops, well, anyhow... <g>
Now THAT's a true friend!!!!He processes it for you?????? What a dream!!!! Very blessed in that friendship.![]()
You don't need any skill to can, just an old Ball Blue Canning booklet you can order off Amazon for a few bucks, a nifty pressure canner....I got mine off Amazon for $38 and free s/h, and jars, of course. After that you just follow directions. Easy peasy! Tender, flavorful, juicy and already cooked so you can eat it straight from the jar if you want.
In these parts we can't freeze meat, as the electric goes off around here if someone sneezes in the next county. Can be a clear, sunny day and the electric will go down and during big storms it can be off for over 2 wks.
