Computers totally intimidate me. Give me a chain saw, or a chop saw, any day of the week. But a computer... that's terrifying! The chicks are doing fine with their gutter feeder. The dowel on top is spaced low enough so they would have to work at it to crawl into the feeder. some do perch on the dowel b/c it is not centered perfectly for a good spin, but it's wobbly enough to discourage them from perching there... and when perched on top, they actually have to reach further to get the feed than they do if standing on the ground in front of the feeder. I did learn one lesson when cutting the second piece of gutter: It shatters if you cut it with a chop saw. (hubby told me after the fact that the chop saw blade should have been reversed.) Lesson learned. I know just enough about power tools to be scary. But, I still have all my fingers and toes.Muslin or a lightweight tea towel or even a closely knit nylon netting should work to cover the ferment while allowing enough air for sure! I have found that my ferments attract fliesso I have taken to covering the containers...since my containers are small I use old (cleaned) nylon hose which fits over the opening nicely cause it is stretchy (also helpful for cutting in strips and tying up tomato plants and so on).![]()
@lazy gardener it is hard to imagine you being technophobe since you so competent at everything, including building feeders! If the chicks still food fight in the gutters consider putting hardware cloth over the feeder top...![]()
My dog LOVES FF.Yup free lunch!! I ferment on my kitchen counter and I use cheese cloth in the summer months.and I'm way up north.. funny thing my dogs love the smell and try like anything to get it???
My dogs look sad and jealous when I feed out the FF. It is pitiable.
I have seriously thought about fermenting their dog food. Any thoughts? since we are on the subject, what's one more jar on the counter? Would their poop smell less and would there be less of it?![]()

Feeding your dog a raw diet will make them poop less and make it smell less. I fed my dog a raw diet, she also loved the fermented chicken food.
